1919
Amir Habibullah was assassinated on the morning of 20 February 1919 at a hunting encampment near his Mehtarlam Palace north of Jalalabad. A heated political struggle erupted over the choice of a successor from which Prince Amanullah emerged the victor. He arrested his uncle, Prince Nasrullah, who died in prison in 1921.
