USTAD MASHALL
From in Herat; in 1998. Ustad Mashall was usually referred to as Senator Mashall. Founder of school for miniature painting students in Herat. Negaristan-i-Behzad, in 1966 to revive the Herati school that was renowned in the 15th century (Timurid). Mashall was the leader of artist community n Kabul. Peshawar and Islamabad were flooded with miniaturist artists after the 1978 coup, but the fad rapidly faded.
10 x 5 cm. in elaborate gold frame. Full scene. Central panel: two women at top of carpeted stairway. Woman and man on balcony over doorway. Background filled with stars. Bust of women in red in window upper right. Woman in green stand next to balcony railing and column of building: Mosque? Lower panel: group of women in garden carrying trays, 2 horses standing on left and right.
