Architectural Changes.

June 2004
In addition, a whole new style of architecture, referred to as "poppy" houses, emerged. Pretentious facades included fluted columns and glittering mirror-glass insets. Interiors were characterized by an ostentatious use of marble and waste spaces impossible to heat in winter or cool in summer. These homes were all too visible manifestations of the illicit drug trade and wide-spread corruption that poisons the society. They also signaled changing basic values. Normally such ostentation was viewed with dislike and mistrust.
