National Museum of Afghanistan: Islamic State of Afghanistan.

May 1993
Ground floor windows were bricked up to prevent access by looters. It was vitally important to protect these collections for this museum is unique in three specific ways. One: it contains an almost uninterrupted record of Afghanistan's heritage from prehistoric times. Two: most of its exhibits were excavated from Afghan soil so it is truly the visible manifestation of Afghanistan's cultural heritage. Three: numbers of its exhibits have no parallels elsewhere in the world.
