The Other Side of the Mountain Residential Areas.

December 1974
Two residential sectors expanded rapidly along the west side of Darulaman Avenu. Karte Seh (District 3), was inhabited largely by civil servants and professors, parliamentarians and politicians. It grew sedately with up-to-date adaptations of old style houses with gardens somewhat similar to those found in Shahr-i-Naw. Inevitably, a sprinkling of "poppy" houses eventually appeared. In Karte Chahr (District 4), on the other hand, property owners came predominantly from the commercial community. They opted more dramatically for high rise apartment buildings, jammed tightly together. Only a few hidden gardens remain in this area, except for the large park surrounding the Sher Shah Suri mosque.
