In August 1842 Shah Shuja, accompanied by a large contingent of British troops in scarlet coats and plumed black shakos (high hats), camped here before taking possession of Bala Hissar. Even before building his palace in 1893 Amir Abdur Rahman held several gala functions here in pavilions "gaily adorned with flowers and hangings of crimson and white."
