All manner of edibles were for sale. A popular specialty for Nawroz was crisp friend fish eaten together with jelabis, a crisp deep-fried pastry soaked in sugar syrup, seen here in the background. At home, numbers of special dishes are, prepared for Nawroz. Particularly popular among these are; Haft Mewa (7 Fruits), a fruit compote made from raisins, walnuts, almonds, hazel nuts, pistachios, dried apricots and, sanjit a (fruit from a local tree); Samanak, a sweet puree made from wheat germ cooked over a very long period is also popular.
