The gold spangles were cut from sheet gold some. 03 cm. thick and came in many shapes: round, square, triangles, hearts, tear drops, lozenges, hemisphericals and variations thereof, with designs on the surface or left plain. Most were only about 1 cm. in diameter as were this group of 555 eight- lobed rosette plaques with raised rims found in the male Burial 4, weighing a total of 86 grams. Such decorative plaques were used to embellish bodies, sleeves and hems. Often lines of Spangles were sewn in lines down the sides or across the fronts of cloaks.
