The Small Bamiyan Buddha. Bamiyan Province.
1994
The Small Bamiyan Buddha (h.38 meters tall) stood at the right side of the vast expanse beyond the Large Buddha. Some believe it was constructed earlier than the Large Buddha. Furthermore, journalists are repeating a myth held by a local group that the Small Buddha is actually feminine. This is of course is totally false. Its construction differed slightly from the Large Buddha in that here a wooden armature was employed under the mud and straw. Traces confirm that the final finish was a layer of blue paint.
