Shoe Buckle. Gold From Tillya Tepe. Near Sheberghan, Jawzjan Province.
The warrior in Burial 4 also wore a pair of shoe buckles (h. 1.1; d. 5.5; weight 125.16 grams) extravagantly encrusted with turquoise inlays. The scene depicts a man seated in a chariot holding the reins of a winged griffin which turns with a raised paw and snarls. Several features indicate local workmanship, including the heavy use of inlays.
