King Amanullah's Residence at Bala Bagh.

1920s
Bala Bagh, King Amanullah's Paghman residence, lay half way up the valley above the Bagh-i-Umomi, off the right side of the road. This two-storey residence called Koti Surkh (Red House) since it was finished with a red color-wash, stood in an idyllic setting of terraced gardens filled with statuary and fountains. Hidden within the luxuriant bowers of trees were tennis courts and a swimming pool. Souvenir post card printed in Paris in the 1920s.
