Attitudinal Changes.

1976
Social attitudes accompanied physical changes over the nearly 150 years since Amir Abdur Rahman began his new city in Shahr-i-Naw. They reflect shifts in thinking that kept life in the city vibrant and dynamic. Many adjustments focused on issues such as the 1959 support for the voluntary removal of the veil and the end of purdah. This encouraged women to look beyond purely domestic occupations, to look outside the home. They began to take up jobs hitherto considered inappropriate for women.
