A block south of Chahrahi Haji Yaqub is Chahrahi Ansari, named many believe for the famous 11th century Herati poet and philosopher Khwajah Abdullah Ansari. But no one seems to be quite sure. It is dominated by the Safi Landmark Hotel opened in September 2005??. where unique glass elevators fascinate customers seated in the basement snack bar. Shops on the first floor are the great attraction. The owners of the original two-story shop buildings abutting the Safi Landmark refused to sell for several years, but finally gave in and have been replaced with multi-story arcades called the Kabul City Center and the City Walk.
