The Sherpur mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, is the western anchor of the Shahr-i-Naw, Shopping area. Built in 1957 by the Kabul Municipality, it sits beside the site of a smaller, older mosque established by Haji Yaqub, a neighborhood resident. Although highly respected, just who the good Haji was is uncertain.
