Maitreya Bodhisattva Holding a Blue Lotus. Fondukistan

Fresco on facade of Niche between pilaster and entrance (h. ca. 40 cm) Strong Indian Gupta ynasty influence in its languid posture and shapely grace of the spindly fingers holding the lotus. The torso is bare except for elegantly draped scarves and jewelry. The heavy jeweled diadem and earring are impressive. The ribbon flowing from the shoulder, however is a diagnostic Persian Sassanian motif. The hybrid style is typical of Fondukistan.
