Interest in the river front developed as the Masjid Shah-i-do-shamshira was built. By 1969 it was one of the more picturesque shopping areas which provides a feeling for Kabul in the past. It remain one of the few areas left that provides a feeling for historic Kabul. Shops on the left bank mainly specialize in eyeglasses.
