Sardar Enayatullah's Wedding Procession.

October 1909
A considerable number of elephants still lived in Kabul up until Habibullah Ghazi (Bacha Saqqao) left. They were usually used for hauling, but on ceremonial occasions they were gaily decorated as seen here for Sardar Enayatullah's wedding procession in 1909. Elephants were highly prized and credited for saving Kabul by demolishing houses in the vicinity of the great fire of 1908. KES Collection No. 126/3
