The Village of Baba Darwesh. Badakhshan Province.
1966
Today Baba Darwesh is a typical mud-walled village like so many others throughout Afghanistan. But Baba Darwesh is distinguished by the fact that some 50,000 year ago? families inhabited a near by rock shelter now called Darra-i-Kur, where a stream flowed by the entrance. The lake attracted birds and animals for hunting and on its shores there were plenty of plants for gathering.
