Christian Cemetery (Kabra Ghora).

October 1995
On the 26th of October 1995 a memorial ceremony for Sir Aurel Stein was held at his grave site. Once again the cemetery suffered from neglect. Sir Aurel's tombstone was broken and smothered with weeds. Robert McKerrow, Head of The Delegation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, tidied up the cemetery and organized a ceremony in memory of Sir Aurel Stein. This was at a time of intense military action around Kabul. The Kabul airport was closed down; so invited guests landed at the Bagram air base north of Kabul and drove down. The tributes to Sir Aurel's singular contributions to an understanding of a major part of Afghanistan's rich heritage were moving.
