Private Villas.

1920s
At the urging of King Amanullah which at time amounted to thinly disguised compulsion, a scattering of private homes were built along the path winding up the valley from the public gardens. The new building code promulgated by the King required that houses be visible from the street and not hidden behind high walls, separated one from the other by at least 15 meters, and set back from the road by 10 meters so as to permit ornamental plantings. This villa was built by Sardar Hayatullah, 2nd son of Amir Habibullah, close to the Bagh-i-Umomi. The architect must certainly have been a European. Souvenir post card printed in Paris in the 1920s.
