Plants grow rapidly in Kabul and most new varieties thrive here. Lady Sale, wife of Brigadier Sir Robert Sale, who lived in Kabul in during the First Anglo-Afghan War (1838-1842) noted in her journal that the sweet peas she had brought to Kabul were doing well. She was immensely pleased.
