Princely Couple From Fondukistan. Parwan Province.
A supreme example of Fondukistan's elegant style (h. 53 meters). The couple sits easily, reaching out languidly to one another with graceful hands their elbows resting on a pile of pillows. The costume of the male's wide-collared coat is decorated by medallions inspired by those found at the Small Buddha at Bamiyan. All Fondukistan figures are made of very light baked clay and are extremely fragile. The slightest knock displaces ornamental features or breaks the slender fingers.
