Bread Shops.
October 1969
The neighborhood nan (bread) shops did not give way to Kabul's hectic dash toward modernity. They continued to provide traditional lightly leavened bread morning, noon, and evening. Either round or oblong depending on what part of the country the baker happened to come from, loaves of nan are the staple of the Afghan diet and hopefully will not succumb to rampant "industrialization".
