Buddhist Mandala From Kakrak Valley. Bamiyan Province.

In another cave in the Kakrak Valley there was a unique painting on clay of a central seated Buddha figure surrounded by a constellation of 12 smaller identical seated Buddhas representing miraculous emanations of the central Buddha (d. 98 cm.). Repetition became an important part of the development of mystic diagrams (mandalas), symbols of the universe. Some believe this is a very early specimen of a cosmic mandala that are so essential to Esoteric Buddhism practiced today in Nepal and Tibet.
