Dashli Complex. Turkestan Plains, Jauzjan Province.
14 November 1975
Travelling 80 km. west from Mazar-i-Sharif to Aqchah the Turkestan Plains seem humped with empty dunes, A survey conducted in 1969 by the Afghan-Soviet Archaeological Mission, however, reported Late Palaeolithic and Neolithic settlements as far back as 10,000 BCE. Bronze Age men built forts and palaces from 1500-800 BCE. The water systems that fed the fields and orchards on which such prosperity rested are still being investigated.
