Pushtunistan Square.
1969
One road led from Zarnegar Park toward the river through Pushtunistan Square where a fountain rose from a mass of boulders. It was completed for the 1962 jeshn festivities at the height of the Pushtunistan controversy with Pakistan. Above the boulders the Pushtunistan flag flew over a monument emblazoned with a rising sun. Pushtunistan Day was celebrated each year on the 31st of August. In the background may be seen the Ministry of Finance and its restaurant, both excellent examples of the architectural style of their day. The restaurant, open to the public, was extremely popular for one of the city's celebrated chefs presided there. The Ariana Cinema is located to the right.
