Amir Habibullah Period: Deh Afghanan. 1912.
1912
Khairya and her son Khalilullah seated before a profuion of wall decorations as was the fashion in the early 1900s. This trend of decorating walls in the Victorian manner was a novel trend in Kabul. Normally very little is hung on the walls of traditional homes where colorful and tasseled hangings covering storage trunks, multi-colored mattresses and embroidered pillows enliven sitting rooms where guests are entertained. Khairya, and her sister, Queen Soraya, were pervasive fashion-setters and always kept up with the latest European styles. KES Collection No. 506/2/2.
