Renovations. Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
2005
Repair of the limestone statue of King Kanishka from Surkh Kotal and the Tepa Maranjan Buddha by a team of French conservators from the Guimet Museum in Paris, together with Afghan conservators from the museum, began in 2003. Using the dust so lovingly collected at the time of destruction, they restored the dignity of the king who again welcomes visitors he did previously.
