Info

Lahori Gate: Bala Hissar (High Palace-Fortress).

1880s
The main gate to the fortress was called the Lahore Gate because it faced east to wards the city of Lahore, a prominent administrative center of Moghul India. It is not known exactly when it was built, but most likely there was some type o fortification here when Alexander the Great passed by without stopping. This is also the gate the ill-fated retreating British forces passed as they left Kabul in January 1842, only to be cut to pieces before they reached Jalalabad. Pavilions rising above the fortress walls face inward. From Roskoschny's Afghanistan, Leipzing. 1885.
