Shahr-i-Naw Expands.

December 1974
Early in the 70s a new housing area was created at the foot of the low ridge called Bimaru, to the north-east of Shahr-i-Naw. Named Wazir Akbar Khan after one of the heroes of the First Anglo-Afghan War (1838-1842), it quickly became Kabul's fashionable residential area for the upwardly mobile. Many diplomatic missions also felt secure living here.
