The kindly human face in the center (h. 10.8 cm) is flanked by two demons from Mara's Army who, according to Buddhist lore, tried their best to distract the Buddha from attaining Enlightenment while he meditated under a Bodhi tree. This was a favorite subject with Hadda's sculptors.
