Faizabad (Blessed Abode) takes its name from the fact that in 1691 the Cloak of the Prophet Mohammad was brought here by one of a long list of local chieftains competing to rule various parts of the Badakhshan territory until 1889 when Amir Abdur Rahman annexed it by force. it is notes by famous travellers as early as the 5th century as a lucrative trade route between China and the India Subcontinent.
The river divides the two sections of the present capital of Badakhshan Province Orchards and houses in the north section on the left and orchards of the south section on a terrace on the right. Lalmi (un-irrigated plots)on hill to right.
