Bone Seal. Shamshir Ghar, Kandahar Province.
Bone seal, d. 3 cm, decorated with a winged camel on the obverse and an incised bird on the reverse Dating from the Bronze Age, 2nd-1st Millennium BCE. Excavated in 1950 by Louis Dupree from the lower Bronze Age levels at Shamshir Ghar (Cave of the Sword), 24 km. southwest of Kandahar. This was a very large cave with five chambers which was used for centuries. Many bronze and iron horse harnesses, projectile points and simple jewelry were found at the later levels.
