The encroachment on the Wazirabad meadows began gradually in the 1960s, accelerated during the Soviet occupation and even more rapidly after 1992.. The meadow is now (2016) immersed in cement, broad avenues, high rise housing, wedding halls, universities and upscale bazaar areas.
