Amir Habibullah Period: Dilkusha (Heart's Desire) Palace; 1900-1914.
1917
The spacious entrance foyer contained stout brick pillars painted to resemble marble in addition to a sweeping staircase to the upper floor where most functions took place. There was an electric lift to the left of the staircase, the first to be installed in Afghanistan. Electricity was just being produced at a hydroelectric plant built north of Kabul in Jebal Seraj from 1911-1919 under the supervision of an American engineer, A.C. Jewett.
