Looking Outward.

1965
Begun in August 1959 and opened in November 1964, the 2.7 kilometer long Salang Tunnel was built by the Russians and the Ministry of Public Works. An additional 4952 meters of galleries helped keep the highway free from snow. These constructions were an immense improvement that kept the enormous trade passing through Kabul flowing to the north.
