Jalalabad Residence of Ghulam Haider, Charki.
1885
The city of Jalalabad, Abode of Splendor was founded by the Moghul Emperor Jalaludding Akbar in 1570. For centuries there after Jalalabad was regarded as a winter resort by Kabul's elite. This residence, built ca. 1800 close to Bagh-i-Kawkab of future renown, was the home of Ghulam Haider, Charki, a prominent member at the court of Amir Abdur Rahman (1880-1910). The gathering probably took place in 1885 on the occasion of the Amir's journey to Rawalpindi to visit Lord Dufferin, the British Viceroy. Copy of KES 52 taken in 1976.
